Caverns
The Story of Fairyland Caverns is part natural grotto, part
mechanical wonderland. It has mechanical elements such as piped music, rotating
water wheels, and sailors gone to sea inside a yawing washtub. The cave is also
filled with water, minerals, coral, and wishing pennies. You'll feel like
you're under the sea and a part of the fairy tale!

The caves' ultra-violet light hints at a more mysterious

Fairyland Caverns' history goes back to ancient times. It
was known by Native Americans and early residents of Chattanooga. In the early
twentieth century, the area was home to prominent businessman Garnet Carter,
who later met the famous artist Frieda Utermoehlen in Johnson City. The two had
a mutual love of European folklore and children's stories. Carter's dreams
turned into reality and they built a community named Fairyland, a new community
that would attract tourists and wealthy residents to the area.

Glow-in-the-dark scenes from popular fairy tales are created by Atlanta artist
Jessie Sanders. Visitors can even take pictures with their favorite gnomes.
After the show, visitors can purchase souvenirs, such as gnomes, and teddy
bears.

Fairyland Caverns is a high outcropping of rock on Lookout
Mountain. It is located at 1400 Patten Road in Rock City, Georgia, and is open
daily from 8:30 am to sunset. Rock City is named because its rocks resembled
city buildings. During your visit, you'll hike through fourteen acres of
magnificent greenery and sedate woodland paths. It's more of a fun hike than a
serious exploration of the caverns.
The fairies are a popular theme park, and visitors will enjoy the dark, spooky atmosphere of the caverns as they explore the various galleries. The exhibits in each gallery will entice visitors to imagine themselves in a fairy tale, complete with a simulated rock shelf. There's a beautiful Gnomes Castle, and there's even a carnival of gnomes brewing moonshine.
